Abstract
Progressive censoring schemes have numerous applications in survival and reliability analyses. A key problem in this area is the determination of an optimal censoring plan. Existing literature addresses this problem under the assumption of independent and identically distributed lifetimes. However, no study has yet proposed an optimal plan for scenarios where lifetimes are independent but non-identically distributed. This paper proposes an approach to investigate the optimal progressive censoring plan under a proportional hazards model with a two-parameter Weibull baseline distribution for the item lifetimes. To this end, we evaluate the performance of the estimators of the parameters of interest under both the classical and Bayesian frameworks. The optimal censoring scheme is selected by minimizing the root mean squared errors of the estimators. The proposed method is illustrated using a real data set, and some concluding remarks are provided.
